HORSEHEADS NY- For the second time this week the Corning Hawks boys basketball team found itself in a win or lose situation. Wednesday they edged Elmira in the final seconds.Friday night they faced another challenge..win and post season was a step away; lose , and forget about it. Horseheads had already seen the writing on the wall. With new guidelines imposed by Section 4 basketball gods for post season play , the Raiders season record was not good enough to move on, so, they could play spoilers and deny Corning a visit to the second season.. And so, with the inside game of Chris Corcoran (17 points), and the outside shooting of Foster Clark (21 points), Horseheads burst the tenuous bubble of the Hawks 61-58, meaning no post season for either team. Credit the Raiders for catching fire in the second half as they stormed from a 15 point halftime deficit to wrestle the lead away with four minutes left in the game. Foster Clark, limited to just 4 points via free throws in the first half, ignited Horseheads comeback with four straight three point baskets well beyond the arc.David Yorio finished with 11 points for Horseheads. Three Corning players had double digit scoring, led by Jared Cramer, 15: Trent Ray 11; and Nick Altieri 10. Horseheads also won the JV game 71-60.
